Idyllic location and lovely cottage with wonderful walks and wildlife from the door. Everything was beautifully clean and well presented with a delicious basket of treats sourced from the estate. The owners were very welcoming and helpful too, when we managed to leave our charger behind! We really enjoyed our holiday and would highly recommend.

The owners provide a great experience. They are welcoming without being obtrusive. The cottage is straight forward to settle into and very homely to stay in. The grounds are lovely to walk around and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. The local towns with their independent shops, enhanced our stay.

River Cottage was a well presented cottage which had quality without being ostentatious. The owners live next door and were helpful without being obtrusive.. Local walks and wildlife were available from the front door whilst there was easy access to town and countryside further afield. Despite the weather it was such a successful holiday that we have already booked a return visit. 07/11/2023
Gorgeous place, well equipped, spotlessly clean, wonderfully appointed. Cottage has everything you need. Some wonderful walks on the estate. More walks in local woods (Glentress) not far away. Lovely tearoom on the site. Some local shops in Melrose are fantastic. Not your mainstream kind of shops, also a mainstream co-op. Further afield some great days out including Holy Island/Lindisfarne, check tide times carefully. Was our second visit, there will be a third and fourth visit in time.

The cottage was excellent and had everything that we needed. It’s in a fantastic location, and we loved sitting in the walled garden in the evenings with a glass of wine. The owners were also very nice people.

Very nice people, great cottage, big garden, including a walled garden, including river tweed, very secluded, very big area to wonder around, Just below Scots View, very very nice place to book your holiday if you like peace and quiet.

Lovely property in delightful location. Peace and quiet. Great walks from door. Helpful owners. Amazing flora and fauna. Property well fitted out with just about everything you could need. Nice welcome pack. Highly recommended.

River Cottage is an absolutely amazing place to stay. The whole cottage was immaculate and very well thought out. The addition of a lounge next to the main bedroom was an excellent addition. You couldn’t wish for a better locaton. The cottage itself was perfect, adjacent to the owners home. The owners themselves were very friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. And there was a lovely welcome basket which was most appreciated. The surrounding grounds are beautiful with plenty of walks.

Our stay at Old Melrose was out of this world. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking and the cottage was ideally located. Nestled in a secluded estate, far from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to Melrose for shopping and eating out. And Melrose has an amazing and eclectic range of shops from artisan butchers, bakers, gift shops and interiors/antiques. Good restaurants, lively pub scene and coffee shops. The cottage itself was perfect. Authentic country house chic, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed for a week’s stay. The walled garden and walk down to the River Tweed was magical. It was springer heaven for our spaniel.

A superb week in a cottage that was meticulously prepared with everything needed for a relaxing holiday including a welcome hamper full of pleasant surprises. The estate is beautiful and nestled in an oxbow of the River Tweed. An additional bonus was the welcome from our hosts who couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The walled garden and riverside walk lifted the spirits on a daily basis. Thoroughly recommend.

We stayed for a week over Christmas. The cottage was well equipped, warm and cosy. The location was stunning and William and Frankie couldn’t have been more welcoming.What more could one wish for? We’ve already booked a return visit later this year.

Cottage was perfect for our needs. Decor and facilities were excellent and the hosts/owners were extremely pro-active at ensuring we were happy. Attention to detail was particularly impressive: little toiletries, welcome basket with delicious brownies etc, really does add huge value and makes you feel that you’re being taken care of. An excellent customer experience. We will absolutely be returning again.

Excellent cottage, in an amazing location. Very clean and well equipped, with a lovely welcome basket on arrival. Particularly enjoyed the homemade Rhubarb jam. The children loved the animals and there were some beautiful walks around the area. Would not hesitate to return again in the future.

You have everything you will need for your stay. You are near Melrose if you want to eat out, but the kitchen is equipped with everything you would need to make a meal. The lounge and bedrooms are very comfortable so you can relax.

Cottage is located in “Old Melrose” and has the river and walks on site and a beautiful walled garden. The cottage is furnished to a high spec and has everything you may need. The owners are next door but don’t let that put you off as they do not interfere with your enjoyment. Lots of shops/ business deliver to cottage which would have been useful to know before – so check that before you travel. We had a great time.

A lovely Autumn break in a wonderful area. River Cottage is in a gorgeous rural setting, within a wooded meander of the River Tweed. A very comfortable base for exploring near and far, with miles of paths from the front door.

Everything about this cottage could not be better: the cottage itself, the location, the hospitability of the owners (who live next door). From what I understand it has been rented out for less than a year, and I expect that it has already become so popular that early booking is necessary if you want to stay here. It is the perfect place for any time of the year (we were there in October, with beautiful autumn colours). The cottage is in the private part of the estate, but guests of the cottage are free to walk everywhere, including the walled garden. For children it must be paradise.

We are holiday cottage veterans of many years but River Cottage is – hands down – the best. From the delicious home-baked bread and brownies which greeted us to the first class facilities in the cottage, everything was just perfect. Within an hour of arriving our children were insisting that we return again next year – and that was even before they had got to know the owner’s children!

Excellent cottage with a high standard of decorations and furnishings. Peaceful, scenic location with walks from the cottage door. Near to Melrose for restaurants etc. One of the best cottages we’ve stayed in.

They have refurbished the cottage to such a high standard. The surrounding land is simply breathtaking.

A perfect cottage for a mid-winter break. We were a party of four adults and a dog, and we found the cottage to be warm, spacious and fitted out to a high specification, giving the feeling of a real home rather than a holiday cottage. We loved the underfloor heating downstairs and the log stove in the living room, and the ‘welcome hamper’ in the kitchen was much appreciated on arrival. The weather turned very severe and we became snowed in, but the owners next door offered every assistance to ensure we had sufficient provisions and kept the access track clear (and arranged a tow for us when we were finally able to leave!). The walks from the door along the River Tweed are beautiful — even in blizzards — and the history of Old Melrose is fascinating. We can’t wait to come back in early summer and complete the many walks in the local area, but we couldn’t have wished for a lovelier cottage in which to find ourselves trapped by the snow. A huge ‘thank you’ to our kind hosts for making this one of our best cottage holidays ever.

The cottage was clean, warm and very well equipped, including the kitchen. The location is stunning – perched high above a 180-bend in the River Tweed (although you can’t see the river from the cottage). The whole estate is very well looked after, extremely picturesque and there are some fantastic walks to be had, either along the River Tweed or through woodland, or both. They’ve obviously made some effort to establish certain walks of interest through some stunning scenery, and there is some historical context provided on some. Once we exhausted ourselves, we found great tea and cake in the nearby tea-rooms half-way along the drive. A wonderful stay, highly recommended.
